A Little About Awesome God Ministries and WowGod.org

Awesome God Ministries was started by Tim Thomas back in 1998 when he was called into pastoral ministry. The ministry began when Tim and his wife Stephnie and a small team began planting a church in Carroll County, Maryland (USA), while Tim was a graduate student. About a year into the church plant, Tim realized that he needed and strongly desired to be part of a larger body of Christians that would offer encouragement and hold him accountable to minister to people guided by the principles and standards laid out in the Bible and demonstrated and taught by Jesus. He heard through a friend about a group called Elim Fellowship, and when he investigated further, he realized that he had discovered a group that loved the Lord and valued a relational style of influence in ministry. Tim applied and was granted a ministerial license. Seven years later, Tim was ordained by Elim Fellowship.

Tim's ministerial role expanded through the years, to include serving as spiritual director in a state-wide ministry to young people between the ages of 15 and 24 years old. He has been very active in this group, Maryland Chrysalis, from 2004 onward. He also became active in the local gathering of pastors, and served as president of that organization from 2006 to 2008, and then as secretary from 2008 to 2010. He has led silent retreats and has spoken at men's retreats and a number of churches. He has been serving since 2007 as the MD and DC area representative for Elim Fellowship, providing pastoral care and coordination for all Elim Fellowship ministerial credential holders in the area.

This web ministry, WowGod.org, began back in 2005 when Tim felt a call to begin writing a book, and was looking for a means to share the insights while he was writing. He now sees the website as a key means of spreading the message of God's amazing love for each person, and God's desire to grant each seeker a deep and intimate friendship with Him.

Tim no longer pastors a congregation, but is active in the church he attends, Harvest Church, in Hampstead, Maryland. He is kept busy by his full-time work as a research fellow and economist. He has a Ph.D. in economics, and endeavors to put his education to use in helping to eliminate poverty in some of the poorest countries in the world. Before starting Awesome God Ministries, Tim spent four years in Kenya as a missionary with Food for the Hungry. This followed on the heals of graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy and serving five years a United States Marine, which he left with the rank of captain.
